Beginning Monday night, September 8, 2025, and continuing for approximately four weeks, the contractor will halt I-91 Northbound (NB) traffic for a period of time (approximately 15 minutes) to perform necessary work for the erection and setting of structural steel between 12:01 a.m. and 5:00 a.m. on all non-holiday days, weather permitting.
During this time, I-91 traffic will be detoured at Exit 16 and re-enter I-91 NB north of the Route 66/I-691/I-91 interchange. There is also an alternate route by exiting at I-91 NB at Exit 15 prior to the lane reduction and closure. Please see directions and corresponding maps below.
- When I-91 NB is closed at Exit 16, the detour route is as follows:

- Take I-91 NB Exit 16
- Right onto East Main Street
- Left onto Preston Avenue
- Left onto the ramp for I-691 WB
- Right onto the on-ramp for I-91 NB (Exit 1A)
ALTERNATE ROUTE AT EXIT 15
To avoid the back-up on I-91 at the Exit 16 closure, travelers are provided with the following alternate route at Exit 15 that will join the Exit 16 detour route on East Main Street.
- The alternate route from Exit 15 is as follows:
- Take I-91 NB Exit 15
- Right at the end of the ramp onto Barnes Road (Route 68E)
- Left onto Research Parkway
- Right onto East Main Street
- Left onto Preston Avenue
- Left onto the ramp for I-691 WB
- Right onto the on-ramp for I-91 NB (Exit 1A)
