Phase 1: Update for the Weeks of August 25 & September 1, 2024

PLANNED CONSTRUCTION

Construction and Maintenance Activities Restricted for Upcoming Labor Day Holiday Weekend:

The Connecticut Department of Transportation is announcing that there will be no maintenance or construction activities on limited-access highways for the upcoming Labor Day Holiday Weekend, from 6 a.m. Friday, August 30, 2024, to 6 a.m. Tuesday, September 3, 2024. Only work of an emergency nature will be considered. In general, Contract Language governs the required restrictions therefore we will verify and abide by the Contracts Limitations of Operations accordingly.

August 27 through August 29, during nighttime hours, from 8:30 PM to 6:30 AM, crews will conduct the following activities:

  • Drainage activities on the crossings on I-691 EB
  • Full depth repairs and crack sealing on I-691 EB
  • Full depth repairs and crack sealing on I-91 NB

On August 27 and August 28, during daytime hours, from 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM, crews will conduct the following activities:

  • Full depth construction of the roadway on the bridge and exit ramp from I-691 EB over I-91 NB and the I-691 EB off ramp to I-91 NB
  • Forming bridge parapets on the new bridge from I-691 EB to I-91 NB
  • Paving of I-91 NB

September 3 through September 6, during nighttime hours, from 8:30 PM to 6:30 AM, crews will conduct the following activities:

  • Full depth pavement repairs on I-691 EB
  • Removal of the membrane on the I-691 EB bridge over I-91
  • Deck inspection of the following bridges:
    • Bridge on I-691 EB over I-91
    • Bridge on I-691 EB over Bee Street
    • I-691 EB bridge over ramp from I-691 WB to I-91 SB
    • I-91 NB bridge over Baldwin Avenue
  • Relocating barriers on I-91 NB from Exit 17 proceeding north to the rest area
  • Removal of the existing safety markings on the I-691 EB bridge over I-91

September 3 through September 6, during daytime hours, from 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM, crews will conduct the following activities:

  • Forming bridge parapets on the new bridge from I-691 EB to I-91 NB
  • Filling and grading the approach on the new bridge and exit ramp from I-691 EB
  • Backup pavement and topsoil slopes on I-91 NB

TRAFFIC IMPACTS:

Tuesday, August 27, through Thursday, August 29, during nighttime hours from 8 PM to 6 AM, motorists should expect the following traffic impacts and closures:

  • I-91 NB left lane closure from Exit 16 to Rest Area
  • I-91 NB right lane closure from Exit 17 to Exit 18
  • I-91 NB double right lane closure from Exit 18 to Rest Area
  • I-691 EB right lane closure Exit 1B to Exit 1
  • I-691 EB left lane closure Exit 1B to Exit 1

I-691 EB right and left lane closures will not happen at the same time

Tuesday, September 3, through Thursday, September 5, between during nighttime hours from 8 PM to 6 AM, motorists should expect the following traffic impacts and closures:

  • I-91 NB left lane closure from Exit 15 to Exit 16
  • I-91 NB right lane closure from Exit 17 to Exit 18
  • I-91 NB double right lane closure from Exit 18 to Rest Area
  • I-691 EB right lane closure from Exit 1B to Exit 1
  • I-691 EB left lane closure from Exit 1B to Exit 1
    • I-691 EB right and left lane closures will not happen at the same time
  • Closure of the I-691 EB off-ramp to I-91 NB (9 PM to 6 AM)
